ABSTRACT: The two conflicts which opened and closed the 5th century BC proved the overwhelming superiority of the Greek heavy infantry against the formidable war machine of the Achaemenid dynasty. Drawing mainly on the limited literary resources available, we analyze the key characteristics of this force.
ER -
