Vol. 18 No. 2 (2023)
"The Little Dragon Dance Head” (2023), by Alexandra Green, is an artistic reinterpretation of a dragon head used in the Little Dragon Dance that was originally made by Liu Yingsheng. In the spirit of cultural preservation, this piece represents cross-generational cultural exchange through an art object. This object is representative of his village’s culture, Tianyin Village, and the illustration of that object is a result of the friendship Liu and the artist were able to form through cultural exchange.

“Boxers at Rest” (2022), by Alexandra Green, depicts the moments of rest between practice of martial art. She was inspired to create this piece from childhood memories of practicing martial arts and boxing with her father. By depicting faceless figures, she hopes that the viewer can see themselves in them outside of culturally identifying markers.
