Abstract

Kinetics of the reversible reduction of acetoin to 2,3-butanediol by L-glycol dehydrogenate (NAD-+ from Enterobacter aerogenes was studied. Results obtained prove that the reaction proceeds via an Ordered Bi-Bi mechanism with the coenzyme as the "leading" substrate. This enzyme shows a high affinity by NADH and acetoin and a lower one by NAD and 2,3-butanediol.
