Abstract

We have performed a study about canine parvovirus (CPV) infection immunity, maternal antibody transfer, the level of protection obtained with it, and its lasting and possible interference on the immune response in the primary vaccination on 10 bitchs and 32 pups of "Mastín Empañol" in an infected breeding kennel, using the haemagglutination inhibition (HI) test in the determination of the immunity level. We have realized the existence of two groups of litters with high and low maternal antibody transfer, in proportion to the colostral ingestion, studying its temporal decline, and determining the half life of these antibodies and the initiation of the critical period. We have verified the great immunizing power of the vaccinal CPV strain (Cornell 80916) with successful immunization after the primary vaccination of puppies with rge levels of maternal antibodies, and the clinical, sometimes total protection in low vels of these last antibodies.
